After The Break
A woman explores her feelings of detachment and freedom through coffee and TV adverts.
βAfter the Breakβ follows a woman through her thoughts and back out into the world again. We meet a person who is βcopingβ. Fuelled by her own ponderings and unable to face the bigger problems in the world, she immerses herself in adverts on the television - as a form of escapism, release and fantasy. Following two ethereal aspirational figures from a greasy spoon cafe and along a platform to the beach, she shares with the audience her thoughts, feelings and opinions on everything from Phil Collins to yoghurts whilst avoiding addressing anything else. A surreal and visual feast, βAfter the Breakβ uses nostalgia and movement to question the glitches between reality and fantasy, authenticity and bravado and how to cope with being overwhelmed and ultimately asks βwhen do we choose freedom?β
