Our transgender relationship - love, society and the law
As the Scottish Government commits to making it easier for trans people to have their gender legally recognised, we hear the views of one transgender couple from Edinburgh.
As the Scottish Government looks at reforming the Gender Recognition Act, we hear the views of one transgender couple from Edinburgh. Zac and Maya are both transgender. They don't speak on behalf of the whole trans community - but for 5 Minutes On, they share with our Scotland Correspondent, Lorna Gordon, their personal insight on what is a hotly-contested issue. Those against moves to make it easier for trans people to have their gender legally recognised express concerns about the potential implications for women of allowing people to self-identify their gender.
This comes as a survey conducted for the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ suggests a general sympathy towards trans people accompanied by uncertainty and hesitation around the details of the changes. On almost all the questions there was a clear age divide, with the under 35s much more inclined to take a position more sympathetic to reform.
