'Love finds a way'
Jeanne Gustavson met Steve Watts as an undergraduate at university in Chicago, but her family disapproved of their interracial relationship. Regardless, the pair continued dating for seven years until difficult shift patterns at Jeanne’s hospital put a strain on their relationship. One night, when Jeanne took a call from Steve during her shift, she broke. She said words that would haunt her for years – she wanted to end their relationship.
Jeanne regretted it the minute she said it, and though 42 years passed, she never forgot Steve. So decades later she decided to track him down.
Jeanne spoke to Emily Webb on Outlook, and you can hear the pair’s full story by following the link titled: 'Love finds a way' - a bond that overcame decades of separation.
