Eileen Gu: The US-born skier winning Olympic gold for China
Eileen Gu is an Olympic freestyle skier who has won gold in the big air ski event in Beijing. In 2019, she switched from representing the United States, where she was born in 2003 to a Chinese mother and an American father, to China.
Alex Capstick outlines her career, and says, as well as being an Olympic skier, she is also a model who appears regularly on state media in China. He says she won gold, after sitting in third place, by attempting and landing a jump she had never performed before in her competitive career.
