It seems that humans are not only responsible for changing the earth's climate, but also for changing the evolution of many species. Meaning, evolution for some animals isn't necessarily taking place naturally, humans are speeding up the process for them. This is according to a new database that has been set up to look at how global warming and pollution have changed some species.

One alarming fact from the research shows that animals appear to be getting smaller in some environments.

Dr Kiyoko Gotanda is behind the research at Brock University in Ontario, Canada.

She says: "What we've found is that, yes, there's lots of evidence that populations and organisms can rapidly adapt to different things".
