"Born again" - Living life pain free after thirty years
Jimi Olaghere is one of the first to benefit from a scientific trial that could give hope to people with sickle cell around the world.
Sickle cell disease runs in families, mostly of African descent, and affects the way our red blood cells carry oxygen around the body. It can damage bones and organs, block blood vessels - and cause excruciating pain. Now scientists in Nashville in the US are inching closer to a cure and Jimi Olaghere is one of the first to benefit. He's taken part in a new trial using gene therapy to engineer his blood. For 5 Minutes On, he tells the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ's Health and Science Correspondent, James Gallagher, about his experience - and what it's like to live life pain free.
