Sir Keir Starmer says too many people in Grimsby feel like they have to "get out to get on". The Labour leader was in North East Lincolnshire today hearing about how green technology is providing safe and secure jobs for people in the area but he said many people feel like they have to leave their home town to look for better prospects elsewhere. He met with local community leaders to hear what they'd like to see from the Government's Levelling Up White Paper which is due out soon. He also spoke to 麻豆约拍 Political Reporter Sarah Sanderson (which can be heard here) during his visit and said "There's a very strong sense in Grimsby that too many people have to get out to get on." When asked what a Labour Government would do in order to help level up local communities in Grimsby he replied: "The most important thing we would do is exactly what I'm doing today which is to come to places like Grimsby, talk to people about their ideas, their plans and their aspirations. So don't sit in London talking about what you're going to do in Grimsby, come to Grimsby and talk to people who have got the ideas and then put the money, the decision making, the infrastructure around it. That's what a Labour Government would do." A spokesperson from the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities said: 鈥淭he government鈥檚 central mission is to level up every part of the country by spreading opportunity, empowering local leaders, improving public services and regenerating our town centres and high streets. Beyond the 拢48 million provided to regenerate Grimsby鈥檚 town centre, we have also invested 拢141 million to build up local business and infrastructure and support people across the Humber to better their skills, and the soon to be open Humber Freeport is already attracting businesses to the area. Our Levelling Up White Paper will build on the existing action being taken across Government and drive forward this central mission.鈥�
