Matt Weston - “Previous GB success is my motivationâ€
Aimee joins skeleton athlete Matt Weston for a stroll around his training base at the University of Bath, they chat about his imminent games debut, training and aspirations.
Aimee Fuller brings you The Winter Olympic Mile podcast on Â鶹ԼÅÄ Sounds. With the Beijing winter games edging ever closer, it felt only right that she catches up with some of the athletes who are heading out to represent their nations. As a former professional snowboarder and two-time winter Olympian, she knows just how it feels, so is buzzing to introduce you to some of Team GB’s finest, as they prepare for their shot at Olympic gold, as well as some of the biggest international names from around the world.
This time out Aimee meets Olympic debutant Matt Weston as he embarks on his first games. Matt has risen through the ranks, having originally been brought in to work towards the 2026 Olympics, but his rapid success has brought that forward.
Matt secured a world cup victory just before Christmas so is in great form, and with such a rich history in GB skeleton success at the games, with the likes of Laura Deas, Lizzy Yarnold and Amy Williams all winning medals at the last three games, the team will want to continue that run of form in China. He explains how he got into the sport, how he deals with the incredible speed and danger of skeleton, as well as his aspirations for Beijing.
Aimee managed to catch up with Matt at his training base in Bath - the only push track facility in the UK - to get the lowdown on the sport first hand.
