Strictly's Rose - signing in the spotlight

The actress has brought attitudes towards disability into the spotlight. The first deaf contestant of the competition has now inspired a surge in people learning sign language.

The EastEnders actress, Rose Ayling-Ellis, has become the first deaf contestant to win Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ One's Strictly Come Dancing. She and her professional partner Giovanni Pernice were presented with the glitterball trophy in the live final. Throughout the competition, Rose has made headlines - repeatedly bringing attitudes towards disability into the spotlight. She's now inspired a surge in people learning British Sign Language. The director of one firm offering BSL courses says enrolments have gone up by more than 2,000% since Rose has been on the show. Google Trends, which analyses online search data, also suggests more and more people are interested in learning.
