Britney freed

A judge has approved the termination of Britney Spear's conservatorship - freeing her from the controversial legal arrangement that has controlled her life for more than 13 years.

A court in Los Angeles has ordered an end to the conservatorship that has controlled Britney Spear's life - and her multi million dollar fortune - for more than 13 years. A judge overturned the order which was imposed in 2008 amid fears for her mental health, putting the singer's father and lawyers in charge. The 39 year old has spoken publicly about the controversial arrangement - accusing her father of being an abusive conservator.

Fans who've been organising #FreeBritney demonstrations for years, erupted in cheers and chants of "Britney is free" after the judge's ruling at a courthouse in downtown Los Angeles. Among them were our Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ correspondents David Willis and Regan Morris - who've been following the twists and turns of the case for more than a decade. This is 5 Minutes On - "Britney is Free".
