Pandora Papers: The secret wealth of world leaders
Hidden assets held by the Kenyatta family appear in latest leak of 12 million documents
The family of Kenya's President, Uhuru Kenyatta, that has dominated the country's politics since independence, secretly owned a network of offshore companies for decades, according to a huge leak of financial papers.
The Pandora Papers - 12 million files - is the biggest such leak in history, obtained by ICIJ in an investigation led by Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Panorama and the Guardian in the UK.
Mr Kenyatta and the six members of his family named have not yet responded to requests for comment.
Some of the 35 current and former world leaders and hundreds of public officials named face allegations of corruption, money laundering and global tax avoidance. But often they are acting within the current rules which allow them to hide the extent of their wealth.
One of the people who has been looking at this material is Simon Bowers of Finance Uncovered.
"We can't see that much but what we can see is an extreme level of secrecy by the first family of Kenya, the head of which, Uhuru Kenyatta, has promised that his family is already, and always was, fully transparent about everything they own... It's now over to President Kenyatta to offer an explanation to the Kenyan people. It's a democracy where there should be a level of accountability."
