Covid-19: I was a hesitant about the vaccine but ended up having a double lung transplant
Blake became ill after attending a concert that was more crowded than he thought it would be. After suffering symptoms, he was put into a medically induced coma for six weeks.
Blake Bargatze, from Georgia in the US, was infected with Covid-19 before his age group became eligible for the vaccine. He admits to being hesitant about the claims, saying that he felt the issue had become politicised and he wanted to take time to make his own mind up.
Blake became ill after attending a crowded concert. When his oxygen levels started falling, he was placed on an ICU. As his condition deteriorated, he was put into a medically induced coma and ended up being unconscious for a month and a half. When he awoke, he was told he needed a double lung transplant. While he had been ill, his heart had stopped three times, leaving him "practically at death's door". He has been left with a compromised immune system, but is now able to perform most tasks.
Looking back, Blake says he would not have attended the concert until he had been vaccinated, and would have accepted medical opinion more readily.
