Beth Shriever and Kye Whyte on making BMX history
Aimee Fuller links up with gold medallist Beth Shriever and silver medallist Kye Whyte as they explain how life has been since creating history at Tokyo 2020.
Aimee Fuller brings you the Olympic Mile podcast on Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Sounds. With the long-awaited Tokyo games now under way, it felt only right that we catch up with some of the athletes who are out representing our nation. As a two-time winter Olympian, she knows just how it feels, so is buzzing to introduce you to some of Team GB’s finest, as they have their shot at Olympic gold.
After whipping around the country to meet up with the likes of Tom Daley, Helen Glover and Adam Gemili, Aimee is now going to connect with members of Team GB as they settle into life within the camp in Japan, to give you an insider’s view of life as an Olympian.
In this latest episode of the games-time podcasts Aimee catches up with two of Team GB's BMX team who have brought home medals from Tokyo 2020. First up is gold medallist Beth Shriever. After her funding was cut following the Rio games, she launched a kickstarter campaign to drum up the finances she needed, as well as taking on a part time teaching job, and now after all that hard work, including the hours and hours of dedicated training, she was rewarded with a gold medal.
Aimee is also joined by Kye Whyte, who in his debut games brought home a silver medal. Despite growing up in a cycling dominated family, with all his brothers and sister also competing, Kye also had the natural talent but was a reluctant athlete who hated training. But after moving from South London to Manchester, he knuckled down and it clearly paid off with his performance at the games. Aimee chats to Kye about how much of an impact his silver medal will give the next generation, something that is very close to his heart.
