Whilst Kaleigh Gilchrist was celebrating an unprecedented third straight world championship for the U.S. women’s water polo team in 2019, a balcony at a nightclub she was at collapsed, killing two people and creating a chaotic scene in the southern city of Gwangju, South Korea.

After the traumatic experience leaving her with injuries to her left leg, she had a long road of recovery to repair her physical and mental health to make it to the Olympics in Tokyo 2021.

One huge push for her to make it to Tokyo was that she is following in the footsteps of her Father, who was an Olympian himself in Tokyo 1964.
