Millions at risk of poverty and starvation after India's Covid crisis

In the aftermath of India’s Covid emergency, an economic crisis has emerged.

The number of India’s poorest people, those earning $2 or less a day, had increased by 75 million due to the recession brought on by the pandemic.

Charities providing food in the country tell Newsnight the demand for meals has increased, not just from some of the most vulnerable but also from professionals who've had no work for months on end.
