Scientists and clinicians across the globe have been working together, sharing knowledge and research across the timeline of the pandemic, as they desperately try to understand how this virus works. Two doctors share what they have found out about how Covid affects the lungs and the heart.
Dr Melissa Heightman, a respiratory physician and Clinical Lead for the post-COVID services at University College London Hospitals, explains how Covid patients can deterioriate in the second week as pneumonia sets in, and how the virus can damage the linings of the lungs and even cause 'clot activation' in the blood vessels.
Professor K Srinath Reddy, cardiologist & epidemiologist and President of the Public Health Institute of India, explains whathas been learnt about how the virus can have such a devastating impact on the heart and large arteries.
