Why do we hear so little about male victims of forced marriage?

Figures released today from the UK’s ΒιΆΉΤΌΕΔ Office show that – despite forced marriage cases falling in 2020 – male victims continue to make up a fifth of cases that the Forced Marriage Unit deal with.

But charities and a former victim say that there has never been enough support for them, and that this isn’t getting any better. The ΒιΆΉΤΌΕΔ's Sophia Smith Galer and Sa’ad Azam spoke to Ankur Desai on the Big Debate.

Sa’ad explains how he ran away from home when he realised he'd be forced to marry. He says he felt β€œalienated and ghosted” when he contacted his university and charities. He recommends young people reach out to get help if they believe they may be forced into marriage.
