Sheetal Surti was seven when she found a patch of white skin behind her ear. She was diagnosed with vitiligo. There followed years of treatment and medication but the patches grew and by the age of 22 all of her brown skin had turned white and people no longer recognised her as the proud British South Asian woman she is.
