Expanding The Women’s Champions League
There will be a new name on the Women’s Champions league trophy this year as Chelsea and Barcelona contest the Final.
It’s also the last year of the current format. Next year the competition is being expanded with a group stage, it’s a format Uefa’s Head of women’s football and two time Champions League winner Nadine Kessler says is instrumental to help grow the game.
Kessler won the FIFA player of the Year award in 2014 and has played a key role in the changes – she’s been telling Maz Farookhi first of all how she feels about having a new name on the trophy after five years of dominance by Lyon.
