What it's like to live through an airstrike in Gaza

Fadi Abu Shammala lives in Gaza City, he spoke with us during an airstrike near his home.

Conflict between Israeli forces and Palestinian militants has intensified. At least 40 people have died in some of the worst violence in years.

Palestinian militants fired hundreds of rockets deep into Israel, while Israel carried out air strikes on Gaza.

Israel's military says it is targeting militants in Gaza in response to rocket attacks on Jerusalem and other areas.

The Gaza Strip is one of the most packed places on earth.Β  A small strip of land, its borders closed, home to more than two million people.Β  So what does it feel like to be under the barrage?Β 

The Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ's Tim Franks got a very real sense of it when he spoke to Fadi Abu Shammala in the western part of Gaza City.Β During their conversation an airstrike took place very near to where he and his young family were sheltering.
