How we learn when we’re asleep
Procedural memory – the muscle memory we develop when we learn new skills – receives a boost every time we sleep. Viola-player Dr Molly Gebrian uses neuroscience to inform how she practices and teaches music. Over a one-week period, we learn more effectively if we practice 10 minutes every day and consolidate that learning with seven sleeps, rather than one hour-long practice session once per week. Sleeping on it really works!
