The return of the jaguars in Argentina
In April 2021, Juruna the jaguar and her two cubs were released in the Iberá Wetlands in Corrientes, Argentina, as part of rewilding efforts lead by Kris Tompkins, president and co-founder of Tompkins Conservation. The jaguar has long been a symbol of strength in Guaranà heritage, and Kris and her team worked with local and national authorities to bring the animals back to the region. Juruna was orphaned by poachers in Brazil and was later brought up in the world’s first Jaguar Reproduction Center, where she gave birth to two cubs. Tompkins Conservation’s strategic partner, Rewilding Argentina, carry out the rewilding.
