Fitness coach Joe Wicks talks to inspirational people to ask them what they do to keep themselves feeling mentally and physically strong. He talks to Mirna Valerio, an ultra-runner and writer who is shattering stereotypes about what it takes to be an athlete.
Known as The Mirnavator to her followers on social media, Mirna regularly competes in ultramarathons and long-distance trail events alongside campaigning for better inclusion and diversity in endurance sport. A former schoolteacher, she still teaches classes on social justice and anti-racism.
Mirna speaks to Joe from her home in Montpelier, Vermont, where she moved to be closer to the mountain trails where she loves to train. She shares her story, from the health scare which prompted her to get back on her treadmill, to running hundred mile trails. She also describes encounters with bears and internet trolls while out running in the forest, and how she loves nothing more than curling up with a good book to relax and unwind.
Joe’s hit Radio 4 podcast is available to watch on Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ iPlayer for the first time.
