Books and art lost in University of Cape Town blaze
Hundreds of students had to be evacuated from the University of Cape Town after a fire broke out. The flames spread to historic buildings including the library which houses rare collections. Over two hundred firefighters worked to contain the blaze at its height.
The Mayor of Cape Town, Dan Plato, went to inspect the damage. He says while two floors of the building were gutted, fire doors on the lowest floor prevented the fire's spread and saved a number of artefacts.
