The One on HIV in Sport

Gareth Thomas, Matthew Hodson and Robert Hayward talk HIV, sport, society and more.

β€œThe conversation around living with HIV must be had”.

Those are the words of Wales rugby legend Gareth Thomas, who is one of three top guests joining us for this episode of the podcast, looking at how sport can help to play a role in busting the myths and misconceptions that still exist around living with the virus.

And if Gareth says this conversation is important, then it’s absolutely something we’re going to do on this show.

The episode also features Matthew Hodson from NAM Aidsmap, and Lord Robert Hayward (one of the founding members of the Kings Cross Steelers) – who both share their thoughts on how HIV, sport and society have interacted over the years.

From the huge advancements in treatment to why athletes have a role to play in breaking the stigma that still exists around HIV, this is a conversation that’s been inspired by β€˜It’s A Sin’ – and hopefully explains why living with HIV in 2021 is nothing like it was in the 1980s.
