Choosing not to have a blood transfusion
Some people refuse to donate or receive blood due to cultural or religious beliefs about the risks involved. This can also affect the availability of blood supplies for patients. Ebla Ali, the medical laboratory technologist in Garissa, Kenya and religious leader Sheikh Hassan Amey, explain to reporter Dayo Yusuf that any donated blood is safe and life-saving transfusions are allowed in their religion.
