Five Decades in Five Songs: The Housemartins "Happy Hour" by Fever
Happy Hour was Hull's Housemartins' breakthrough hit, staying in the UK chart for 13 weeks in 1986 and peaking at number three. Taken from the album London 0 Hull 4, the band wrote the song in their house on Grafton St in the city. The band got their first radio support from Steve Massam here on Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Radio Humberside.
Fever are one of Hull's top bands and tipped for great things this year - they're due to support Blossoms on tour as soon as lockdown allows. When we were approaching artists to perform these classic songs, it turned out that Fever had beaten us to it! They recorded this in between lockdowns last Autumn when they realised that one of the band was living in Paul Heaton's old house on Grafton St. So, this was recorded in the very spot where the song had been written 34 years before...
