Cake
Scales, measurements and rising temperatures meet a girl’s birthday celebrations over time
Birthday celebrations become a battleground for body-image in this short. CAKE follows a girl’s journey navigating through birthday celebrations from blowing out candles to cutting slices of cake - the most mundane of activities is not as sweet as she once thought.
Flo Cornall’s spoken-word film unravels the turbulent relationship between food and the body. CAKE captures a coming-of-age narrative, which builds and breaks the rose-tinted lens of society’s expectations and how one might crumble under its unrelenting pressure. There’s no set recipe for learning to love yourself. This film acts as a rallying cry for people to reconsider their judgements towards weight and take the brave step towards celebrating their bodies, whatever shape it takes.
