'Most horrendous shifts we will ever encounter.'
This is Orla Hillary, an intensive care nurse who has devoted her every waking hour to fighting Covid. In an intimate diary for File on 4 she explains how intensive care units have been so overstretched that healthcare workers such as language therapists, dentists and physios have stepped in to help watch over patients who are gravely ill with the virus. In a moving tribute she says they've saved many lives. But she's fearful of the impact the often heartbreaking work may have on their mental health.
