How a Komodo dragon’s ‘virgin birth’ shocked zoo keepers

Komodo dragons are one of the only animals able to reproduce without male fertilisation. Zoo keepers first discovered this in 2007, when a dragon gave birth even though there were no males in her enclosure.

Chris Michaels, head of reptiles at London Zoo in the UK, introduces us to her son – Ganas – and explains how it was possible.
