The many shapes of animal sperm
Across the animal kingdom, sperm have evolved many different shapes and tricks to be the first to reach the egg. Sperm and bird fertility expert Dr Nicola Hemmings from the University of Sheffield reveals which unlikely species has the largest sperm in the world and why the humble rat’s sperm hook together into a conga line to fertilise the egg.
