Turning old plastic fishing nets into carpet tiles
Discarded fishing nets pose a major environmental issue as they are largely made out of nylon – a type of plastic.
Marine conservationist Prof Heather Koldewey collaborated with a carpet company to create Net-Works – a business that turns old fishing nets from the Philippines and Cameroon into high-end carpet tiles.
So far, they have collected and recycled more than 200 tonnes of discarded nets.
