Ethiopia Tigray crisis: government forces shot at a UN truck

Ethiopian troops shot at UN staff after they drove through check-points in the conflict-hit northern Tigray region, a government spokesman has confirmed. For the last month there has been fighting between government forces and the TPLF (the Tigray People's Liberation Front). The Ethiopian government had previously agreed to the UN having "humanitarian access" and blamed the UN team, saying they were not supposed to be in the area.Β  Saviano Abreu, is a spokesperson for OCHA (the UN's Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs) in East Africa. Speaking from Kenya, due to the continuing information blackout in Ethiopia, he described what happened and the impact of the shooting on their ability to roll out aid to the tens of thousands of people who have fled the fighting.
