Nigeria massacre: farmers death toll may rise

Estimates are growing for the number of people killed and beheaded by armed militants in Nigeria. Figures range from 40 up to 110 -- it's not known exactly how many were killed because the search for bodies continues. It's also believed that some women may have been kidnapped.

The victims were working in rice fields when armed men on motorbikes appeared. No group has yet claimed responsibility but the Islamist Boko Haram and its splinter faction, the Islamic State in West Africa Province, have carried out deadly assaults in the area in recent years.

The spokesman for the Nigerian Presidency, Garba Shehu gave his reaction to Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Newsday.
