New Zealand appoints first female foreign minister of Maori origin

New Zealand β€˜s new Foreign Minister Nanaia Mahuta is the first woman to be appointed to the role and only the second-ever person of Māori descent to be in the cabinet. She has been criticised by some for wearing the culture of New Zealand's indigenous people in the form of a tattoo on her chin.

The Foreign Minister, Nanaia Mahuta, told ΒιΆΉΤΌΕΔ Newsday why it is important:

"I understand that the cultural representation of indigenous people can be quite confronting for some people. However it's becoming the norm in New Zealand."
