New Zealand appoints first female foreign minister of Maori origin
New Zealand βs new Foreign Minister Nanaia Mahuta is the first woman to be appointed to the role and only the second-ever person of MΔori descent to be in the cabinet. She has been criticised by some for wearing the culture of New Zealand's indigenous people in the form of a tattoo on her chin.
The Foreign Minister, Nanaia Mahuta, told ΒιΆΉΤΌΕΔ Newsday why it is important:
"I understand that the cultural representation of indigenous people can be quite confronting for some people. However it's becoming the norm in New Zealand."
