Pope Francis has held a conference called 'Liberating Mary from the Mafia'. The head of the Catholic Church has given his blessing to a new Vatican think tank that is seeking to prevent the Mafia and organized crime groups from exploiting the image of the Virgin Mary for their own illicit ends. So what has led to this? Massimo Faggioli is professor of theology and religious studies at Villanova University, a Catholic university in Pennsylvania, USA.
