Fake feedback: Sellers ‘using one-star reviews to harm rivals on Amazon’
Amazon's marketplace is being abused by independent sellers using one-star reviews to harm rivals, Newsnight has been told.
Newsnight spoke to a number of those affected who believe their sales have suffered as a consequence.
Every year £23bn of online shopping sales in the UK are said to be influenced by reviews - which makes them and people’s trust in them all the more important.
Over the weekend Amazon removed 20,000 fake positive from its platform. But it’s not just positive reviews that are being manipulated - false one star reviews are now thought to be the new front of feedback forgery.
How is it affecting businesses on the platform? And how straightforward is it to remove fake reviews?
James Clayton reports.
