Energy Minister says the Humber region is central to Government's net zero strategy

The Energy Minister says the Humber region is "absolutely central to the Government's net zero strategy." Kwasi Kwarteng today announced a review into improving the transmission infrastructure at sea to help the UK increase offshore wind power from 10GW to 40GW within the next ten years. During a visit to the Siemens Gamesa wind turbine blade factory in Hull, Mr Kwarteng told Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Political Reporter Sarah Sanderson: "The review is called the offshore network transmission review and it is about how we can actually land power generated by offshore wind onto the mainland. So we're trying to look at how this can be done." He added: "I think it represents a huge opportunity in terms of jobs. We want to grow green jobs and we also want to have the best capacity in the world. We've got 460,000 green jobs in the UK today and we want to see that increase to 2 million by 2030 and I think that's a huge opportunity for the region and for people growing up and who want stay in the region and have really good well paid jobs." When the Energy Minister was asked if the Government would be investing further in the Humber region to help create more local jobs in the renewables sector, Mr Kwarteng replied: "I think the investment will come from two sources, firstly the Government but more importantly I think there'll be huge amounts of private sector investment as we see here with Siemens and there will be other companies as well who are very interested in the Humber region. The Humber region is absolutely central to our net zero strategy."
