Coronavirus: Why have masks become such a battleground?
As Scotland makes the wearing of face coverings in shops mandatory, we ask why there is such an argument about wearing a mask.
The Scottish Government has said it hopes using face coverings will provide an additional layer of protection to lower the risk of coronavirus being transmitted.
It became mandatory to use a facemask whilst shopping in Scotland from July 10.
Prime Minister Boris Johnson said Downing Street is also considering bringing in similar measures in England.
But why are masks the subject of so much political and cultural argument?
And is the scientific evidence helpful?
