Up a Class
Hayley Pearce is working-class through and through, but she wants to know how easy it would be to go up a class. Will being posh prove too much of a push for Hayley?
Presenter Hayley Pearce is proud of her working-class roots, but with the gap between rich and poor widening, she wants to know how easy it would be for her to move up a class. Hayley discovers that there’s much more to class than how much money you’ve got in the bank. It’s also about where you went to school, who your friends are, what gigs you go to and what your hobbies are. Hayley overhauls her leisure activities with a spot of golf and some classical music, she takes voice lessons to refine her accent and supercharges her table manners with an intense etiquette lesson. But along the way she discovers that, whatever actions you take, there are obstacles in the way that can make social mobility very difficult.
