This passionate work for violin borrows melodies from Bach's big choral work - the Matthew Passion - as well as from the intimate cantata 'Gott soll allein mein Herze haben' ("God alone has my heart"). The violin 'sings' in this composition like a lover saying: 'Don't leave me'.
