President Trump has come in for a lot of criticism over his response to the protests that have swept across the United States over the last week after the killing of George Floyd by police. James Mattis, who was President Trump's first defence secretary, has accused his former boss of abuse of power for his threat to call in the military.

But many Republicans say this anger is misdirected. Santa Clarita is a city to the north of Los Angeles in California, with a population of around 200,000 people. Trish Lester is the President of the Santa Clarita Republican Women Federated.

"It's pretty hard to listen when you have people throwing bricks into buildings... It's not the time for dialogue when people are this upset."
