With almost a quarter of the US workforce having filed for unemployment since mid-March, President Trump is desperate to get the country working in time for the election.
Almost 40m Americans have sought unemployment benefits since the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic in mid-March 2020.
Although all 50 states in the US have started to reopen, it is not clear whether simply easing restrictions will prompt economic activity to rebound.
Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin warned this week that the US risked "permanent damage" if the lockdowns continued.
In the battleground state of Michigan, President Trump addressed auto workers at Ford manufacturing plant, which is currently manufacturing ventilators.
A few weeks ago at the start of May, gun-toting protesters against the stateβs coronavirus lockdown rallied in the state capitol building.
