Cancelling Tour de France ‘could be disastrous’ for cycling

Team Cofidis rider Nathan Haas talks about the effects a cancellation of the 2020 Tour de France could have on the sport and the French people.

Speaking with Sportshour’s Caroline Barker, the Australian, who has been in lockdown in Spain for over a month said: "I know sport is not an essential thing for society but it would be symbolic if the TDF went ahead. A year without the Tour de France could be disastrous for cycling.â€

The postponed 2020 Tour de France will now start on 29 August, following the French government's extension of a ban on mass gatherings to mid-July because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Cycling's biggest event was originally scheduled to run from 27 June to 19 July.
