Coronavirus: Inside Europe’s ground zero
Newsnight has been given exclusive access to the hospital at the centre of Italy’s coronavirus epidemic.
Filmmakers Francesca Sironi and Alberto Gottardo spent a day inside Lodi hospital in the Lombardy region, which bore the brunt of the outbreak when COVID-19 first hit northern Italy.
Italy, judged to be two weeks ahead of the UK, had its first case seven weeks ago and currently has recorded the largest number of Covid-19 deaths in the world.
More than 100 doctors have died in the country while treating the virus.
The Italian Prime Minister has suggested that if scientists allowed it, they might relax some of their lockdown measures by the end of the month.
Our International Editor Gabriel Gatehouse reports.
