German Navy pilot saved life of 10 year old boy at swimming complex on Portland

Rufus Wilson was underwater for several minutes after his arm got trapped in a spa drain.

A German Navy student pilot saved the life of a young boy at a private swimming pool complex at Atlantic House on Portland, Dorset on Friday 21st February 2020.
Ten year old Rufus Wilson spent several minutes underwater when his arm became trapped in the drain of a spa by a strong suction and was in danger of drowning.
Lieutenant Johannes Rolle was in a nearby fitness suite when he heard the boy’s father screaming as he desperately tried to rescue his son and immediately rushed to assist. Both men tried to pull Rufus from the spa, initially without success.
Lieutenant Rolle ran to isolate the power supply to the pump and on his return, found father and son on the poolside. The boy was unconscious, had no pulse and was not breathing.
The 31 year old student pilot immediately conducted CPR and resuscitated the boy. He told Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Radio Solent reporter Laurence Herdman: "if we hadn't been there, and we hadn't been in this situation, the boy maybe will not survive."
Paramedics from South Western Ambulance attended to find the boy conscious, but shaken. Rufus spent the next five days in hospital, but has since recovered.
The boy's parents, Richard and Samantha Wilson, are enormously grateful and will meet Lt Rolle to thank him personally in the coming days. Rolle, from Borna, in Germany is close to the end of a six month course with HeliOperations at Portland to become a Search and Rescue helicopter pilot with the German Navy.
Comer Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔs Limited, the owner of Atlantic House has refused to comment on the incident.
