The Murder of Joy Morgan: Episode 2
Joy's involvement in a particular church caused friction with her family; we learn why.
Joyβs church is described as being a βracist hate groupβ by a civil rights organisation and we hear how her involvement in the church caused huge friction between Joy and her family.
In this episode, we discover why the Southern Poverty Law Center has put Joyβs church - Israel United in Christ - on a list of βblack nationalist hate groupsβ. We hear how the church teaches its members that white people are the βdevilβ as well as claims it encourages them to cut themselves off from non-believers - something the church denies. We speak to Joyβs mum at a time when sheβs struggling to cope and hear how a series of family tragedies had left Joy feeling vulnerable.
Presented by Cherry Wilson, The Murder of Joy Morgan is a six-part series that follows Joyβs family for 12 months as they try to make sense of whatβs happened. And it delves into Joyβs involvement in a controversial church - where she met her killer.
Produced by Cherry Wilson and Duncan Middleton. It is a ΒιΆΉΤΌΕΔ Newsbeat production for ΒιΆΉΤΌΕΔ Radio 1
