Saving the scrolls that survived the Holocaust

Mordechai Pinchas is a Hebrew scribe and specialist in restoring old Torah scrolls.

The Torah comprises the five books of Moses and is considered the holiest object in Judaism – but these Torah scrolls here at London’s Memorial Scrolls Trust have additional, important meaning.

Over a thousand scrolls were saved after WWII from what is now the Czech Republic, where Jewish communities were destroyed during the Holocaust.

It’s up to specialist scribes like Mordechai to help bring these scrolls back to life, so that synagogues can once again use these moving remnants of the past.
