Trump impeachment: 'My job is to tell the truth and seek justice'

Representative Zoe Lofgren has participated in three US president impeachment trials.

For the foreseeable future, Democratic Representative Zoe Lofgren will be spending Monday to Saturday at President Trump's impeachment trial, which begins on Tuesday 21 January.

The US President is accused of seeking help from Ukraine to get himself re-elected, and obstructing Congress - both allegations he denies.

Representative Lofgren says, "It's important that the facts, as well as the constitutional violations, be made public - not only for purposes of conviction and removal, but as a warning to this president to cease his misconduct, as well as a marker for future presidents, that this activity is impermissible.”

Although the trial is held in the Senate, she is one of seven "impeachment managers" - effectively prosecutors - representing the House of Representatives. Rep. Lofgren is the only member of Congress who has participated as part of the Judiciary Committees for all three modern impeachment proceedings: For Presidents Nixon, Clinton - and now Trump.
