Today will see a solar eclipse which will be visible in parts of the Southern hemisphere. The annular solar eclipse occurs when the sun, the moon and the earth are aligned in a way where within the same orbit the moon intervenes between the sun and the earth. This physical position causes the partial solar eclipse where the sun rises with a ring of fire in the sky. The eclipse will be visible in several countries including Saudi Arabia, India, Malaysia, Ethiopia, Kenya and Northern Australia. Tom Kerss is an astronomer and he explained why this type of eclipse was so rare.
